Let's Move
The following has been designed to give you information in advance of your visit to Manchester Art Gallery so that you can get the most out of your morning or afternoon activity session.
Aims:

- To make their visit to a public art gallery an enjoyable and memorable experience
- To introduce young visitors to the Clore Interactive Gallery, Art Gallery building and key pieces in its collections
- To link words, gestures and movement to communicate concepts
What happens in a session:
- The emphasis will be on looking at pre-selected works focusing on movement using a variety of approaches, e.g. counting, finding, mirroring.
- Moving around the building, children will be introduced to a range of art to inspire discussion and stimulate the imagination
- The group will be introduced to the Clore Interactive Gallery where the interactive exhibits encourage participation and engagement with select works from the collections through fun, games, dance, and much more!
- The tour will be led by a Gallery Educator who will stay with the group throughout
Preparation:
- Primarily the session will be a tour and talk around the gallery, exploring a selection of art works through discussions, debates, drawing and storytelling
- In the classroom, discuss the way in which animals and humans move, i.e. walking, flying, swimming, slithering, etc. Compare the similarities and differences.
- Discuss the function of your spine and different ways in which you can move and twist
- Bring a minimum of 1 adult to 5 pupils
- Brief adults to be aware of their supervisory role and responsibilities for engaging the children
